Laurence W. Kessenick
Larry has practiced law since 1970 when he graduated from Hastings College of the Law. He began his career with the Hassard Bonnington firm, representing the CMA and many physician clients. Larry joined the Hanson Bridgett firm in 1973 and was a partner until he left in 2006 to form the Kessenick, Phillips & Gamma firm. Larry acts as legal counsel to many physician groups, and regularly advises in complex business transactions. His clients include the California Radiological Society and Brown & Toland Medical Group where he serves regularly as outside counsel.
He has special expertise in all forms of health regulatory law as they affect the formation of physician business ventures, including Stark II, the federal anti-kickback law, and the Speier law. He is past president of the California Society of Healthcare Attorneys and served as a board member for many years. He is general counsel to one of the firm's few non-healthcare clients, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, a regional accrediting association for community, career and technical, and junior colleges throughout California. He has been awarded the highest AV peer rating by the Martindale Hubble law directory; he is listed in the 2014 edition of The Best Lawyers in America; he is recognized by corporate counsel as a “Top Lawyer” and was selected as a super lawyer by the “Northern California Super Lawyers.”
